An air tool is driven by compressed air that is supplied by a gas compressor. The carbon dioxide stored in the chambers or cylinders helps in shifting the tool to places of either of great height or deep depths. Air tools are considered cheaper and safer to use than the tools run on electricity. Specifications to run air tools are represented in l/min, m3, of standard reference atmosphere (SRA), i.e. +20 c, 65% of relative humidity, 1013 mbar.

There are various types of air tools. Some of the most commonly used are air pumps and compressors and the most popular one being the pneumatic tube. It was earlier used to transport messages from one office to another. Many scientists improvised on the system and air tools like the hammer, cash register for supermarkets and even the drill machines were invented.

Air tools became popular in the 20th century and compressed air devices increased. Jet engines and automatic machines that saved labor cost were introduced to increase production at a faster pace than manually operated machines. Later, in the 1960’s the digital air tools came in existence.
